I have a confession to make. I have a Facebook account. For some time now. Much to my youngest daughter, unfortunately, I might add. I can not remember when it started, but it was an effort to connect with potential buyers of his novels. Now it seems that I am part of this rapidly growing group of Baby Boomers who are going social media sites in droves.
One source indicates that almost half of us in this cultural demographic born between 1946 and 1964 are "members" of some kind of social networks. Facebook seems to be a "drug of choice", with Twitter and LinkedIn in the following chase. I've been invited to Linkedin a few times, I do not know why. I have been known to mispronounce the title of "Link-a-Din". It was supposed to be "Linked-in," as in "Connected", is not it? It seems to me that someone who can not even pronounce correctly is absolutely no business background, so there is no "linking in" to me.
I get a kick out that this phenomenon is uber-connectivity has changed the English language. Words that have traditionally nouns are now a verb. We "Tweet", text and e-mail each other to the point of possible injury. Maybe this all started with the use of the word "impact" as a verb. I've always associated the term with lower gastrointestinal disease. But, as usual, I digress.
Boomer set has accepted this media frenzy, which is also diving into Twitter arena. It was reported that teenage texter more species, with "tweeting" is going to create below us. A recent article the question is whether Boomer joining in record numbers to kill these methods of communication. I say, no way. Because there are so many of us, it can only improve the opportunities for marketers, and so drive the dollar on this site. But my daughter did not tell me, with caution, I was absolutely not "friend" her on Facebook. (There is a noun, a verb confusion again.) Which I appreciated. Heck, I welcomed it. I really do not want to see all of your business. Sometimes in this game of parenting, it is best not to know too much about what your child is up to l. I am not a prolific poster, a sense that nobody really cares that I just made this a great egg sandwich with Swiss cheese on lightly toasted wheat bagel. I usually just "rate" of other peoples comments, ('stem' is used here in the context of a non-creepy), and make occasional smarty-pants watching. But, speaking of scary, some personal things people put out there should not be shared with all the known world!
so it really should come as no surprise that boomers are jumping on the technology wagon. We were first after all, learn to program a VCR, an embrace, a garage door opener, and was originally a technology fund our descendants mobile phone / laptop / iPod life. So do not be too hard on us.
We just like to see as still relevant.
